A FASCINATION with his town’s bus service has led one enthusiast to put two years into researching and writing a four-volume report on the subject.
Jonh Savage, who lives in Lakeside is planning on giving his meticulously detailed manuscript about the history of Tring’s bus service to the town’s history society.
The project looks at the services since they began in 1914, how they became privatised, the vehicles and interesting facts about the routes and timetables.
It includes flow charts, photographs from the 1920s to the 1960s and a year by year chronology of timetables and their changes.
John, who has lived in the town for 20 years, said: “I’ve always been interested in the bus service and had a set of photographs that I wanted to give to an organisation to use but the images needed explaining and I ended up with a six-inch thick manuscript in four volumes.
“I was staggered by the sheer amount of information available from a variety of archives at the town and borough councils.”
