The chairman of Berkhamsted Town Council’s transport and environment committee couldn’t get to its meeting on Monday – because he was stuck in a lift.
Councillor Ron Cowie, who is also the town’s mayor, was trapped on his way to the 7.30pm second-floor Berkhamsted Civic Centre meeting.
He said: “The lift screeched to a stop at 7.20pm and I was there for about 20 minutes.
“They had to find a key to open the lift door on the second floor, which I was two feet below, and two big, burly policemen had to lift me out.
“It was just weird. It was quite a long time before anyone heard the alarm bell. I was a bit shaken up at the time – and sorry I could not make it to the meeting.”
