Baby batterer sentence to be reviewed

The jail term of a man who beat a baby so badly that she will need care for the rest of her life could be extended.

Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning wrote to the Attorney General asking for the sentence given to Grzegorze Lis to be looked at again.

The 35-year-old broke both the baby girl’s legs, fractured her skull and bit her, leaving the youngster, who was just eight weeks old at the time, blind, deaf and incontinent.

Mr Penning called for the 10 years and nine months sentence to be reviewed and in a written response Attorney General Dominic Grieve said: “I consider that the sentence passed on Lis, can properly be described as being unduly lenient.”

The case is expected to be looked at by the Court of Appeal next month.

Joanna Skrodzka, 22, who shared a flat with Lis in The Maltings, Hemel Hempstead, was jailed for two years and nine months after failing to get medical help for her baby.

Mr Grieve decided not to send her case for review, as he believes it would not be deemed as unduly lenient.
