Newly elected police and crime commissioner David Lloyd has hit back at suggestions that he is unable to commit his time fully to the role.

Mr Lloyd will continue to be a councillor with both Herts County Council and Dacorum Borough Council, as well as taking on the commissioner job.

This could earn him up to £19,490 on top of the £75,000 police and crime commissioner salary.

Cllr Lloyd Harris, deputy leader of the Dacorum Liberal Democrats, said: “Has this man got the time to do all these tax-payer funded jobs and be a full-time commissioner?

“Councillor and commissioner David Lloyd was unable to attend Wednesday night’s Dacorum Council meeting – his empty chair spoke volumes.”

Mr Lloyd, however, insists that he is fully focussed on his job as commissioner.

“This is a full-time role and I am fully committed to it,” he said.

“My priority is crime reduction, whether that be through my work as a councillor or as the police and crime commissioner.

“I plan to have a published diary, then everyone can see what I do.”
