Tesco has put forward a bid to extend the time it has to develop on a derelict car show room site in Bovingdon.
The supermarket giant has submitted an application for an extension on planning permission, which was granted on appeal back in November 2011.
Under the proposal, which sparked the highest number of objection letters ever received by Dacorum Borough Council, Tesco wants to open a convenience store and build eight flats with parking on land at the junction of High Street and Chesham Road.
It is feared that the new store could be the death knell for the village’s independent traders.
Bovingdon Parish Council is due to consider the application at it’s planning meeting on Tuesday evening, which is being held at Bovingdon Bowls Club in High Street from 6.30pm.
The views of councillors there will be passed on to the borough council, which will make a decision on the latest application. Also on the parish council’s agenda is a proposal to transform the historic Bull pub in High Street into housing including two apartments, two homes and a studio property.
