The East of England Ambulance Service is urging the public to stay safe and take care on the roads after a spate of accidents throughout the region.

Since 1.45am today (Tuesday), the trust has received 35 emergency calls.

Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson said: “At this time of the year, with the combination of wet weather, high winds and leaves falling off trees on to the road, which can make the roads slippery, and the nights drawing in early on, we do see a rise in road traffic collisions.

“Please plan out your journey and if possible take an alternative route to avoid flooded areas as it’s not worth the risk of getting stranded in rising water and risking your lives. Remember to watch your speed and leave plenty of distance for braking.”
