Friends of Tring Church Heritage are in the first stages of a project that will see the Gore memorial in the parish church restored.
The memorial in St Peter and St Paul Church in Tring High Street commemorates Sir William Gore and his wife Elizabeth, who lived in Tring Park until 1707.
According to antiques expert and FOTCH trustee John Bly the Gore Memorial is one of the finest examples of this type of church sculpture in the country.
Currently the Friends are waiting for estimates on how much it will cost for an expert to clean it
Mr Bly said: “The important thing is it shouldn’t be done to look brand new but instead should be carefully cleaned by someone who is used to conservation rather than restoration.”
