Rothschilds thank the people of Hastoe

Crowds gathered at Hastoe Village Hall to celebrate its restoration and reopening by Lord and Lady Rothschild.

The village hall trust has been working for the past two years on the £150,000 project to bring the 150-year-old building into the 21st century.

It was paid for by fundraising in the community and grants from The Chiltern Leader Fund, the Big Lottery, Tring Town Council, Hertfordshire County Council and The Rothschild Foundation.

At the grand opening on Sunday Lord Rothschild said: “I’m happy that the Rothschild Foundation was able to give a grant towards what’s happened here today.

“Thank you very much indeed everyone for your support and making it happen. I hope you enjoy this place and make full use of it in the decades ahead. Thank you.”

The hall was endowed by Lord Rothschild’s ancestors and opened in the 1890s by Lady Emma Rothschild, who wanted it to be a community hub.

It has a capacity of 150 people, a stage, a professional standard kitchen, a computer-friendly meeting room, disabled facilities and parking for 60 cars.
