Staff who look after people in Dacorum with mental health problems have been awarded for their efforts.

Hertfordshire’s NHS Trust celebrated the achievements of its mental health services at two award ceremonies held last Thursday at De Havilland Campus in Hatfield.

Some staff members were praised for excellent work while 120 professionals received development awards.

Albany Lodge Inpatient Unit in St Albans won the gold award for its mental health assessment pilot project, which returns its service users to the community quickly and safely.

Staff at Victoria Court, which is a residential unit in Stevenage, were picked by service users and other members of staff from Hertfordshire’s NHS Trust to win the governers’ award.

Spokesman Richard Upton said: “It’s only by investing properly in staff development that enables us to give such good service.”

More than 100 members of staff achieved qualifications including NVQs in health and social care, administering medication, assessor awards and awareness in dementia.

Some staff achieved a foundation degree in health and social care, and those who completed an advanced level apprenticeship in business administration, and health and social care were also recognised at the ceremony.

Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust chief executive Tom Cahill said: “Everyone who has received an award invested their personal time into learning new skills.”
