TAKEAWAY owners are appealing to pub-goers to be more considerate when they park their cars in the evening.
China Town Chinese takeaway owner Michael Ngai is worried that the parking and congestion on Akeman Street in Tring will put off his customers from ordering food.
“The problem is worst on Friday and Saturday evenings when customers for halls, bars and restaurants in the area block people’s driveways,” he explained.
“A couple of my regular customers have said to me that the parking is so bad they sometimes can’t be bothered to come down and pick up a takeaway.”
The narrow road with single yellow lines only has a small car park of six spaces and additional cars are left on the roadside.
Mr Ngai said: “There are three car parks nearby that provide enough parking for everyone during the evening.”
Owner of Mighty Bite takeaway and delivery Okan Koseoglu said: “The problem started when The Akeman bar and restaurant opened and it has got progressively worse ever since.
“My customers and my delivery drivers come and go throughout the night but when there are cars everywhere blocking the road, there’s no coming and going.”
Peter Borg-Neal, who is the chief executive of The Akeman’s parent company, disagreed because he thought it wouldn’t be fair to question people who are parking legally.
He pointed out that people who parked there used the takeaways as well as the other venues.
He said: “We should just carry on as usual because if we cause a fuss it could prompt the council to put in double yellow lines and then we would all lose out.”
