Several Dacorum schools have announced today, Friday, that they will close early due to the severe snow – but others are staying resilient to the bad weather.
Adeyfield School headteacher Scott Martin said as it is based in Longlands, a main road, the snow is ‘not that much of an issue’.
He said: “The vast majority of our students walk to and from school, so as long as they are able to walk, we are OK.”
But he said pupils’ health and safety is the priority and their parents will be alerted by text if it does have to close.
He said: “If it stays like this, I am sure the children will have a great weekend of sledging and snowball fighting, as we would if we were that age.”
But Broadfield Primary School in nearby Windmill Road, Adeyfield, has announced it will close at 1pm today.
Haywood Grove School in St Agnells Lane, Grovehill, will close at 12.45pm and Hemel Hempstead School in Heath Lane, Boxmoor, will close at 2pm.
Rural school Gaddesden Row tells parents: “Please be aware we may close early today as routes here can become treacherous.”
Pixies Hill Primary School in Hazeldell Road, Chaulden, says that it is open, but a spokesman said: “We will monitor weather situation throughout the day and contact parents if this changes.”
Woodfield School in Malmes Croft, Leverstock Green, has warned that it may close early due to a ‘severe weather warning’.
Roman Fields Pupil Referral Unit in Box Lane, Felden, will be closed throughout the day.
