A selection of the opportunities available this week through the Dacorum Volunteer Centre.
Special volunteers are needed to help out in the visitor centre at HMP The Mount in Bovingdon.
Visitors often have long and difficult journeys and children especially can be tired and upset by the time they reach The Mount.
Centre volunteers offer a friendly face, a cup of tea, a bite to eat and a listening ear to visitors before they go over to the prison.
The centre is open on Friday afternoons and has sessions both morning and afternoon at weekends. You would need to be over 21, have good social skills and an interest in people of all ages and backgrounds. Basic food hygiene training is available and travel expenses offered. The recruitment process can take a long time so volunteers are asked for at least a one year commitment.
Dacorum Communities for Learning needs four new trustees with business or professional skills to help oversee the running of this home- grown charity.
The charity provides affordable courses in IT, arts and languages which are held in community centres in Hemel Hempstead and Tring. Over 400 learners have signed up to discover new learning opportunities that could change their lives.
Volunteers who are happy to share their expertise in marketing, fundraising or health and safety will be especially welcome. You would be expected to attend regular trustee meetings and there will be a chance to get involved in other projects according to your skills and interests.
Full trustee meetings are held at Warners End Community Centre on Friday mornings every two months with subcommittee meetings in between.
A fundraising whizz is needed to help bring in cash for Herts Domestic Abuse Helpline.
The right volunteer will have some experience of trust funds, sponsorship, social media or events.
If you have some great ideas and a passion for working for vulnerable people, the helpline team would love to hear from you.
