THE new year has brought a positive outlook for a failing school that has made some key resolutions to turn things around.

Grove Road Primary in Tring has an action plan to improve the school after Ofsted inspectors criticised its leadership and strategic planning and told it to get its act together last year.

Consultant headteacher Janet Langdon is spearheading a new regime where there will be more consistency in teaching methods, clear leadership and strategic planning in pupils’ progress through the school.

Staff will be monitored more closely, they will have more training sessions and teachers will be encouraged to take on positions of leadership in their subjects.

Mrs Langdon has already implemented a set format for teaching maths and will do the same for literacy classes. She will meet with county officials to look over the final action plan this week.

She said: “The problems were never about inadequate teaching, it was about pulling together strengths.

“The report was a shock so I have had to boost morale but from the point of view of the staff, they just want to get it right.”
