It’s time to fall in love with volunteering!

Firms are being encouraged to host speed dating events to match employees with volunteering opportunities.

Volunteer Centre Dacorum, in The Roundhouse, Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead, launched its Speed Matching service in 2005 and it’s an idea they say has been taken up around the world.

The events involve representatives of up to 15 local charities meeting employees in the workplace. Charities are given four minutes to impress potential volunteers.

There are score sheets, a stop watch and ‘daters’ moving from table to table.

The format can be used to organise team building events or group volunteering sessions.

To take part, Volunteer Centre Dacorum says the requirements are a room that can comfortably fit up to 15 small tables with space for moving about and around 30 staff who want to find out about volunteering.

Volunteer Centre Dacorum says its toolkits for Volunteer Speed Matching have spread around the globe. They’ve been used from Exeter to Aberdeen and in Canada the USA and Japan.

The people to contact at the centre are volunteer centre manager Heather Allen or marketing and development co-ordinator Lorraine Rockminster – call 01442 247209.
