A selection of the opportunities available this week through Volunteer Centre Dacorum.
Parents are needed to help other mums and dads facing tough times.
Home grown charity Home Start Dacorum helps families with pre-school children to cope with the stresses of family life.
Volunteers support families until they feel able to cope without further help.
Tasks can include giving a parent a short break by looking after the children and helping with visits to the clinic.
All volunteers follow an eight week training programme. The next course starts on Tuesday, February 26. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, develop skills and make a difference to someone’s life.
Hemel Hempstead Gateway Club needs a volunteer secretary to join a great team of volunteers. The club offers social and leisure activities for adults with learning difficulties and meets twice a month on Tuesday evenings at the Jarman Centre in Old Crabtree Lane.
As well as joining in the fun on Tuesdays, the right volunteer would be able to produce simple newsletters and programmes, keep records up to date and maybe even help apply for funding. Don’t worry if you can’t do it all. as lots of help and support is available from the rest of the team.
The club urgently needs minibus drivers to transport members between home and the Jarman Centre. You would be needed one Tuesday a month from around 6.30pm until 10.30pm and would work alongside an escort. If you want to learn to drive a minibus, have a clean driving license and good people skills the Gateway Club would love to hear from you.
> Age UK Dacorum has a waiting list of older people looking for befrienders to brighten up their lives. Befrienders visit isolated and lonely people in their own homes.
If you have a caring nature, a good sense of humour and can spare an hour or so each week this could be the opportunity for you.
