A rave that would have seen 500 people descend on a village was thwarted by police.

Officers received intelligence that the party was due to take place on Friday, February 1 on private land in Bedmond.

As a result of the information, two raids were carried out in Watford last month where a large number of nitrous oxide canisters were seized.

Two men, both aged 21, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a public nuisance. They are on police bail until February 26.

Neighbourhood team Insp Robin Winder said: “The rave was expected to cause considerable disruption to the local area, creating noise and traffic disruption.

“We were also made aware that nitrous oxide was planned to be used at the rave and, although this is not illegal to take, it can be extremely dangerous and have fatal consequences when misused.

“The area has had raves in the past and I hope this sends a strong message to anyone involved in planning future events that we will use all our powers to pre-empt them and prevent them from occurring.”
