STUDENT Callum Mackie has decided he wants to become a fireman after spending a day with crews at Hemel Hempstead Fire Station.
The 15-year-old wrote a diary after taking part in the firefighter for a day programme, organised by Cavendish School to improve pupils’ behaviour and attitude.
Callum describes how they learned to ‘sweep’ a smoke-filled house for casualties and cut the roof off a crashed car. “All in all I thought it had to be one of the best days of my school life,” he said.
“I learned so much, all in the space of one day. If I had the opportunity to do it all again I would.”
