Tributes have been paid to a bubbly teaching assistant and mum-of-two who has lost her battle with cancer.
Sharron Wootton, 48, was a nurse but returned back to work in 2009 after having children as a teaching assistant at Aycliffe Drive Primary School in Grovehill, where her son Joseph and daughter Freya were pupils.
Joseph, 13, has since gone on to secondary school, while Freya, 10, is in Year 6 at the primary school. Colleague Angela Black said: “She was a very kind person, always very bubbly.
“We always liked to call ourselves a family because that is what we say to the children – we are a big family.
“The children loved her. She would always have a bit of a laugh and joke with them – she was the same with us.”
Sharron, who was married to John and lived in Marlborough Rise, Grovehill, was also classed as an ‘unqualified teacher’, which meant she taught some lessons and particularly enjoyed science.
She was diagnosed with metastatic uterine leiomyosarcoma last year and died at the Hospice of St Francis on February 26.
Mrs Black said: “We always understood that she was getting better and I understand from her family that they obviously thought the same. It was a terrible shock last week to hear the news.
“She was a lovely lady, she will be missed by all of us.
“We won’t forget her. She will be part of our family as long as we are all here.”
