Neighbours’ thumbs up to Tesco’s 24/7 trucks

Deliveries will be made to Tring’s main supermarket at all hours of the day and night if new proposals from the grocery giant are given the thumbs up by planners.

Rules now state that stock can only go to the London Road Tesco store between 5.30am and 11pm Monday to Saturday and between 9am and 4pm on Sundays.

Bosses say the change to 24/7 delivery will improve the availability of stock, so that customers can find what they are looking for much more often.

And the plan is also supported by neighbours of the supermarket.

During a six-week trial of the extended delivery hours between December 21 and February 6, Tesco installed sound-monitoring equipment in the garden of Helen Garton, 48, who lives next door.

But she said Tesco workers caused no extra noise at all – even when she had the window open.

Janis Hazel, 57, who also lives nearby, said: “They are very good neighbours. If there has ever been any complaint, it has been dealt with instantly.”

Mrs Garton said: “Before we moved in, I was awake at night thinking: ‘What have I done? What have I done?’

“But it really has not been a problem. In fact, living next to Tesco has been quite handy.”

She said there had been problems of late-night noise from the store in the past, but when she complained, the problems stopped.

It will now be down to Dacorum Borough Council to decide if the store should be allowed to accept deliveries on a 24/7 basis.
