People are invited to come along to the first Friends of the Water Gardens meeting to hear about the Hemel Hempstead town centre landmark’s past and plan for its future.

At the meeting, Kate Harwood from Hertfordshire Gardens Trust will be talking about the Gardens’ architect Geoffrey Jellicoe, its history and its significance. Restoration plans will also be discussed.

Councillor Terry Douris, who oversees planning and regeneration affairs for Dacorum Borough Council, said: “Over the next year we will be preparing our second round bid to the Parks for People Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund scheme.

“We can only do this with the input and involvement of local people. We need to know who uses the Water Gardens at the moment, what they do, and what would encourage more people to visit.

“We would like the Gardens to be an area where people can learn, train and volunteer, and we need the Friends’ help and ideas.

“This is a key part of the masterplan for Hemel Hempstead Town Centre, and if successful the Water Gardens will become a welcoming and high quality space for both residents and visitors.”

The meeting takes place in the Civic Centre on Marlowes next Wednesday, March 27 at 7pm.
