A national survey has revealed that more staff compared to previous years who work at hospitals within West Herts would recommend them as a place to work or to receive treatment.
The questionnaire, organised by the Care Quality Commission and the Department of Health, also found that workers at Hemel Hempstead’s Urgent Care Centre, Watford and St Albans hospitals, are some of the most highly motivated.
Staff said they felt engaged with West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust – which runs the three sites – and received regular appraisals.
The 2012 survey results also revealed that 92 per cent of the trust’s staff who completed the survey felt that their role really made a difference to patients.
Director of workforce Mark Vaughan said: “We are pleased that the latest results of the NHS national staff survey show we are continuing in the right direction.
“We have made dramatic improvements in the last two years in the way we engage and involve staff in decision making in the trust.”
It follows the trust being highly commended in November for its staff engagement programme at the Health Service Journal Awards.
However, the survey also identified areas where more work needs to be done, including improving the working lives of staff, particularly the perception of incident reporting procedures and further equality and diversity training.
