A selection of the opportunities available this week through Volunteer Centre Dacorum.

Home-grown charity Sunnyside Rural Trust needs volunteers with retail experience to work alongside adults with learning disabilities at their new farm shop.

Sunnyside clients and trainees produce craft items and hanging baskets, grow fruit and vegetables, make jams and chutneys and look after chickens. The shop at the Hemel Food Garden site on Two Waters Road next month and will be selling all this produce and more besides.

Volunteer farm shop assistants will be dealing with customers and helping the trainees who will be learning the ropes. The right volunteer will have good customer service skills a friendly and positive manner and be a good team player.

Fundraising volunteers are needed by Epilepsy Action to help out with events and collections. Epilepsy Action works to stamp out the stigma associated with epilepsy and provides support and advice to those affected by the condition.

A group co-ordinator will help recruit members and plan events that could range from fashion shows and pamper nights to sponsored walks and football tournaments.

Support volunteers help out in practical ways with events in their own area and can pick and choose when to get involved.

Collection box coordinators find local businesses that are willing to take the counter top collection boxes and then collect and replace boxes when there is money to bank. All roles are flexible at a time to suit the volunteer.

Dacorum First Credit Union needs customer service assistants to help in their Bridge Street Office. Volunteers with good communication skills and an attention to detail are needed to take on this role. Once trained in credit union products and procedures, you will undertake cashier duties, deal with telephone enquiries and help out with administration. All credit union volunteers need to either live or work in Dacorum to be eligible to help out.

The centre’s landmark Roundhouse offices in Hemel Hempstead town centre will be closed for business from 4pm on Thursday, March 28 until 9.30am on Monday, April 9. They are using the time to upgrade software and for staff training on the new system, all with a view to improving service to volunteers and organisations.
