COUNTY council chiefs are planning another council tax freeze for this year.

The move, contained in Herts County Council’s Integrated Plan for 2012 to 2015, would make it the third year the tax has not been raised.

A report to the council’s cabinet also says a freeze is ‘currently assumed for 2013/14 and 2014/15’.

Meanwhile, the council has identified £151 million of potential savings by 2015, of which £129 million are ‘efficiency savings’.

So far £88 million of savings have been delivered with a further £38 million planned for this year, with another £33 million of unidentified cuts still to be made by 2015, including job losses.

The report says £38 million will be set aside this year for highways improvements, to extend high-speed broadband to areas with poor coverage and for the ‘development of homes for the elderly to modern standards’.
