A proposal for Dacorum Borough Council’s chief executive to take early retirement has been given the green light.
The council’s cabinet signed off plans for Daniel Zammit to leave later this year on the grounds of ‘the efficiency of the service’.
His departure will provide a full year saving of around £130,000 and it is likely that more cash will be saved through the redeployment or redundancy of secretarial and administrative support.
It is expected that one of the council’s three corporate directors will fill the vacancy but if someone needs to be recruited from outside the organisation, there would be redundancy within that top tier.
During the cabinet meeting last Tuesday, Councillor Nick Tiley said: “You have done a good job Danny, thank you very much.”
Mr Zammit, due to leave in October, previously told the Gazette that he hopes to be able to spend more time with his young children after a battle for health two years ago made him reassess his priorities.
