A warning has been issued to dog owners after a deer was seen being chased by three dogs on Box Moor Trust land. General manager Ian Richardson says dog walkers should ensure their pets are kept under control at all times.

“It’s every owner’s duty to make sure their dog is not a danger or nuisance to farm animals, wildlife or other people,” he said. “By law you must control your dog so that it does not disturb or scare farm animals or wildlife.

“You do not have to put your dog on a lead on public paths as long as it is under close control. But as a general rule, keep your dog on a lead if you cannot rely on its obedience.”

The warning comes after an email was sent to the trust from someone who saw three dogs racing after a deer in a ‘pack type’ chase.

Mr Richardson also wants to remind people not to feed or stroke the trust’s livestock. “This is especially important with young animals with their mothers,” he said.
