Concerns over hygiene and hand washing facilities at a proposed Indian takeaway have been raised by an environmental health officer.
Plans have been drawn up to open the new eatery at the former London Road printers – B. Garrad Ltd – in Apsley, Hemel Hempstead. It is next door to a Chinese takeaway and a few doors away from a fish and chip shop.
The plan is currently open to public consultation and, to date, just one objection has been made.
Environmental health officer Jo Lee-Dade outlined concerns about the size of the proposed food handling areas, where storage, preparation and cooking is carried out, which she believes appears too small to provide adequate working space for good hygiene practices in relation to the amount of food being cooked.
In her letter to planning bosses she has also voiced concerns about a lack of hand washing facilities, including the lack of a basin in a first floor toilet area.
A decision on whether the takeaway can go ahead is due to be made next month. To have your say visit www.dacorum,gov.uk and search under ‘planning and development’.
