Little boys of all ages will be making tracks to one of the rare open days hosted by the Brambleton Model Railway Club, just up the road in Harpenden, today, Saturday.
The gates will be open at the club’s base next to Highfield Oval in Ambrose Lane from 2pm to 5.30pm. Admission is £2 for adults and half price for children and senior citizens, with refreshments available all afternoon. The outdoor club boasts an 0 gauge layout consisting of nine stations on loop of double track which stretches for an eighth of a mile.
The line will be in operation all afternoon and there will also be steam engines running on the 16mm garden line which at almost 200 yards is now believed to be one of the longest in the country.
You can find all the fun by driving north out of Harpenden on the A1081 towards Luton. As you pass under the bridge that once carried the Nickey Line turn right and follow the signs to the marshalled car park. More at www.brambleton.co.uk.
