The firm involved in a fire that raged for almost three months has until the end of October to clear its site.
Woods Recycling Services in Appspond Lane, Potters Crouch – on the border of Hemel Hempstead and St Albans – was stripped of its operating permits last month.
The Environment Agency took action following the fire, which started on November 10.
Enforcement notices were previously served on the firm back in 2012, which ordered that the amount of wood waste on the site be reduced.
Later in the same year the agency went on to issue suspension notices that banned the company from accepting any more wood or compost waste.
Under the latest enforcement action a series of deadlines for clearance work have been set with a final date of October 31.
A spokesman for the agency said: “We will continue to carry out regular site visits to ensure Woods Recycling Services is meeting the staged deadlines.”
