The new chairman of the Berkhamsted Chamber of Commerce says he will do his best to get the town a ‘fair share of the Dacorum cherry’ of public funding.
Director of Berkhamsted’s TravelTime World David Steadmen was speaking at the Chamber’s annual general meeting before being elected its new leader.
He said: “Berkhamsted does not receive its fair share of the Dacorum cherry. I wish to change that. I believe our Chamber has not done enough in the last decade to engage with both the community and our own local government to engender the respect we deserve within the borough. This needs to change.”
Dacorum Borough Council has a core strategy for development that says more homes and firms should come to Berkhamsted between now and 2031. Mr Steadman says the town needs more funding to cope with this.
He said: “I would put forward Berkhamsted’s case to get a higher proportion of the Dacorum budget to create an inward investment policy of urgently needed resources for the town.”
