A children’s welfare organisation is issuing guidelines on reducing the risk of cot death following the findings of a national survey.

The Lullaby Trust, an infant bereavement support organisation, found more than half of all new mums fear that their baby will die in their sleep.

Now the Hertfordshire Safeguarding Children Board has re-issued guidelines to parents who want to know how to keep their babies safe.

Chairman Phil Picton said this week: “No-one can guarantee to prevent sudden infant death.

“However, by following some simple guidelines, you can help to keep your baby safe.”

Measures include putting baby to sleep on their back on a firm mattress with their feet at the bottom of the cot, as well as making sure they do not get too hot.

There’s more detailed guidance available at www.lullabytrust.org.uk.
