A pensioner is calling for a review of paving slabs in Hemel Hempstead’s town centre after he tripped over.

Tony Anderson was left with badly bruised ribs and a black eye.

The 72-year-old, of Mayflower Avenue, Hemel Hempstead, said: “The pavements all around the town are a disgrace, you have to walk looking at the ground so as to avoid the numerous cracks, uneven slabs, ridges and holes.”

The damaged paving slab in Marlowes is the responsibility of Herts County Council and has now been repaired.

Matthew Kelley from highways contractor Ringway said: “While our engineers carry out regular inspections, members of the public are able to help us spot and deal with any defects by reporting them to us at www.hertsdirect.org/highwayfaults.”
