A pensioner was kept comfortable after doctors could do no more to treat his lung disease, an inquest heard.
John Simpson, also known as Jack, was admitted to Watford General Hospital on January 30 after he became unresponsive while at home.
The 82-year-old, of Gadebridge Road, Hemel Hempstead, had a long history of lung disease, said Herts deputy coroner Graham Danbury at the hearing on Thursday. “On arrival at hospital he was in a poor condition. There were serious respiratory conditions that were not amenable to treatment and he was kept comfortable, dying on January 31.”
A post mortem examination confirmed that Mr Simpson was at the end stage of chronic structured pulmonary disease and pulmonary thrombosis. Evidence of heart disease was also found.
Verdict: death by natural causes.
