The man at the helm of the trust that runs Hemel Hempstead’s Urgent Care Centre has retired.

Professor Thomas Hanahoe has been chairman of the West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust, which is also in charge of Watford and St Albans hospitals.

He believes he is leaving the trust in a strong position and says the proposed new Watford Health Campus is developing apace.

“I have been privileged to see a wide range of service improvements across the hospital sites, including changes to the environment, care pathways and, most important, the patient experience; and perhaps most memorably, the opening in 2009 of the 120-bed acute admissions unit at Watford,” he said.

Non-executive director Mahdi Hasan will act as interim chair for the trust with immediate effect.
