There were some exciting scenes at the recent End of an Era concert to mark the transition of Berkhamsted’s schooling system from three- to two-tier.
The recent event had all kinds of music – from the djembe drumming band of the Thomas Coram Middle School to Bridgewater School’s orchestra to rock music from Ashlyns School.
The festival attracted past and present pupils from schools across the area and ended with a performance by headline act The Memphis Blues Brothers Band and fireworks.
It was staged at Bridgewater School, which was also responsible for staging a mini-Olympic Games between each of the area’s 10 schools last year.
Bridgewater’s choir of more than 120 pupils and orchestra of more than 60 pupils performed for the several hundred of people that were there. Its former pupils – which included Ashlyns bands Comrade Cycle and Parka Club – also performed.
Bridgewater headteacher Rachel Swaffield said: “It was a wonderful event – great fun and a real testament to the affection with which our town’s schools are viewed.
“The quality of music was outstanding and it was heart-warming to see youngsters who had left the school years ago still pursuing their musical talents and enjoying performing.”
