A mother’s fundraising drive in memory of her baby daughter has raised more than £10,000 in less than six months since her death.
Helen Cruickshanks, of Leverstock Green, Hemel Hempstead, decided to raise cash for the specialist heart and lung centre at Chelsea’s Royal Brompton Hospital where baby Macy was treated for a thickening of the heart muscle.
The latest fundraiser – a make do and mend craft event – raised £1,147.
Other money spinners have included Helen’s sister Sharon Raine’s slimathon, which raked in £1,000 and saw her lose three stone and runners taking on the Brighton Marathon and the Watford and Bupa London 10K events.
Helen said: “Team Macy continues to grow every day, with over 780 Facebook followers and so far over 900 people wearing our ‘Team Macy’ wristbands.”
After undergoing open heart surgery Macy lost her battle against hypertrophic cardiomyopath when she was just six weeks and one day old.
