A Berkhamsted rifle, archery, knife and outdoor store is on a mission to change the way guns are viewed in the community.

Ronnie Sunshines, in Canalside, Northbridge Road, went part of the way to doing that by scooping the Retailer of the Year category at an awards night on Thursday, (June 13).

David Craze, managing director at Ronnie Sunshines, at the Hertfordshire Federation of Small Businesses Awards, said through education programmes and customer service the business was aiming to change people’s perceptions of guns.

Another Dacorum business successful on the awards night at Shendish Manor, in Apsley, Hemel Hempstead, was ecological tree surgeon firm Treelife Ltd, based in Great Gaddesden and Berkhamsted. Its big yellow Mercedes trucks are often seen around the borough, from where the company gets most of its work. Treelife won the Dacorum Business of the Year title, sponsored by the borough council.

Tim Wise, Treelife owner, said he was delighted that the company had been recognised.

The runner up into the Dacorum category was chilli food specialist Grim Reaper Foods.

The overall county award on the night was won by Rayden Solicitors, in St Albans.

Other successes with Dacorum links came via networking group Business Buzz. It holds a monthly meeting in the Olde Kings Arms pub, in High Street, Hemel Hempstead.

Stevenage Business of the Year was Magnite PR, which has been heavily involved in the Dacorum Look No Further inward investment campaign.

Ian Cording, of the FSB, said the event reflected the mood of the county of Hertfordshire in that it was full of vibrancy and positivity and was making a vital contribution to UK Plc.
