SPORT: Plans to construct an astroturf hockey pitch on Green Belt land have been resubmitted by an independent school.

An application to Dacorum Borough Council was originally withdrawn after mass opposition from neighbours of the site in Kitcheners Field, Berkhamsted.

Now Berkhamsted School, which charges up to £26,760 per year in fees, says it has responded to their concerns by removing all 50ft floodlights from its plans.

The school also commissioned an independent traffic engineer, who said any increases in traffic would be ‘extremely modest.’

Peter Nicholls, its deputy business chief, said: “This is a resource that would be well-utilised by our pupils with or without lighting. Our reason for incorporating lighting originally was to extend usefulness of the facility to the local community.”
