A shopkeeper has taken on supermarket giant Tesco with his first store.
Grovehill Express in Henry Wells Square, Hemel Hempstead, is in the same parade of shops as a Tesco Express.
But businessman Seynth Kathir, who lives in Adeyfield, said: “People want competition and people want a cheaper price.
“We can give good customer service and whatever Tesco doesn’t sell we can sell it here and whatever people want we can get it.
“Most customers like it and they are saying it is cheaper than Tesco.”
The family-run shop, which was opened earlier this month, is Seynth’s first store. He said: “So far we are doing well.
