An animal-lover from Hemel Hempstead says she must stand against the treatment of thousands of dogs bound for Thailand’s meat trade.
Dog-mad Joanna Wills of Lawn Lane is using annual holiday leave from her job as a management trainer for cruise ships to travel over to the Asian country, where in some places trade for the meat of man’s best friend is lucrative, albeit illegal.
The 37-year-old, who will volunteer in Phuket for two weeks, said: “What happens to so many dogs in Thailand is horrific. I heard about the charity Soi Dog Foundation and the amazing work they do to save these dogs from appalling conditions, and they rely solely on donations.
“I already donate to dog charities so this time I thought I had to get involved. If no one makes a stand then it will keep carrying on but I want to show the world what is happening.”
Joanna hopes vets in the area will be able to donate equipment she can take with her when she volunteers for the charity from July 5. Email her at JoannaW@theonboardspa.com for more.
