The fast paced contact sport of roller derby will be coming to Hemel Hempstead this weekend.
Among the Hell’s Belles Roller Girls team in the Summer Shovin’ bout will be Dani Holtby, from Hemel Hempstead.
The 23 year old, whose roller derby name is Drac Killer, plays the position of blocker.
She said: “I know no matter how hard we hit each other on track, off track there’s hugs and smiles all round, as well as comparing bruises.”
The sport involves two teams of five skaters on an oval track. The point scorer from each team - known as the jammer - attempts to continually lap the opposing players to score points.
Dani said was hooked on the sport after watching a friend in action during a training session.
Her team will be up against The London Rockin’ Rollers Rising Stars as part of Summer Shovin’ at Sportspace in Park Road on Saturday, where doors open at 3pm.
There will also be a mixed opener featuring The Pink Ladies V The T-Birds.
Tickets can be purchased on the door. To book visit www.brownpapertickets.com/event/396751
