A Berkhamsted law firm believes taking part in a hospice’s Make a Will Month will also be good for business.
The Hospice of St Francis, in Berkhamsted, received nearly £3,000 from waived legal fees after nine selected legal firms in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire helped nearly 50 people make their wills.
Solicitor Josie Birnie and her colleague, legal executive, Meg Cooper, at Sumner & Tabor, in High Street, drafted 18 wills under the scheme. The firm has clients whose families have used St Francis services and felt they should be doing their bit for the cause.
But the knock on effect could be in more business down the line. Josie said: “We think many of the new clients we saw as a result of the scheme will come back to us if they need further legal help, which is great.”
The Hospice recently opened its final two beds thanks to generous legacies left in wills, but in order to keep these beds open, the need for funds is greater than ever.
Kate Rogers,of The Hospice of St Francis, said: “We’d be delighted to hear from any solicitors in our catchment area who might be interested in participating in Make a Will Month 2014.”
