Fire and ambulance crews were called out to the site of this weekend’s Chilfest music event after a young man suffered a seizure while working on 45ft high staging earlier today.

The man, in his mid 20s, collapsed at the top of the structure, which is being set up ahead of the two-day festival starting on Friday in Pendley Meadow off Cow Lane, Tring.

Paramedics from Hemel Hempstead, Tring and St Albans were alerted to the incident at 10.25am but required assistance from Herts Fire and Rescue Service to bring the man back down to the ground.

One pump from Hemel Hempstead along with two specialist rope rescue crews from Watford spent between 30 and 45 minutes helping the unwell worker. Medical helicopter charity Magpas Helimedix also attended the scene.

Following a thorough examination by paramedics, the man was taken to Luton and Dunstable Hospital for further tests.

Chilfest organiser Steve Butcher said: “It happened while he was high in the air. What tends to happen when someone comes out of a seizure is they can become quite aggressive. He wasn’t in a stable enough position to be moved down to the floor so we needed the help of the fire service.

“He is now fine, he was up and around, walking about but we insisted that he go to hospital as a precautionary measure.

“We wish him all the best and hope to see him in the next couple of days.”
