Five people had to go to Watford General Hospital to have foreign objects removed from their rectums during the last financial year, costing the NHS around £20,725.
The hospital is part of the West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust, which also runs Hemel Hempstead’s Urgent Care Centre - but no-one turned up there needing such treatment.
The figures, which cover the period from April 1 last year to March 31, 2013, were released in response to a Freedom of Information request.
