Prime Minister David Cameron and Home Secretary Theresa May have congratulated police in Herts for having some of the best crime detection rates in the country.

They visited the force yesterday to congratulate it on its performance in the 12 months leading up to March 2013.

Its crime detection rate rose from 35 per cent to 39 per cent in that period, compared to a rate of 29 per cent nationally.

Meanwhile, recorded crime fell by 15 per cent, compared to seven per cent nationally, in that time.

Police and crime commissioner David Lloyd said: “I have consistently said, it is not how much money you have but how well you spend it, and these impressive figures confirm that Hertfordshire is not only a low crime county but one where crime is falling faster and further than elsewhere.”
