A kind-hearted teenager from Longdean School has planned a pub family fun day in aid of her school’s World Challenge project.
Shannen Avis, who lives in Northend, Hemel Hempstead, has organised entertainment including a bouncy castle, barbecue, tombola and children’s games at the Red Lion pub, Nash Mills, from noon until 4pm on Sunday.
There will also be a visit from a fire engine between 1pm and 3pm, where youngsters will be able to sit in the cab and try on fireman’s outfits.
Shannen, 15, must raise £2,500 by next summer if she wants to fly with fellow Longdean students to San Jose, Costa Rica, and lend a hand to the locals.
She said: “We should give more to them. They have nothing and we have everything. We need to have a greater respect for the world.”
Shannen has already raised £700 through dog walking, babysitting, car washing and bag packing at the local supermarkets.
