A string of changes to the roads are planned to make it safer for children to walk to school – and there’s a week left to have your say on the proposals.
Herts County Council and Westfield First School in Berkhamsted have drawn up the recommendations to encourage ‘more sustainable’ forms of travel around the school.
A report by the two organisations suggests upgrading traffic lights at the junction between High Street and Billet Lane to allow for new pedestrian crossings across each road.
Also suggested is that the ‘school keep clear’ lines in front of Westfield First School are repainted, and that the road where it is based – Durrants Lane – is resurfaced.
The school’s gate should be made more visible and double yellow lines drawn at the nearby roundabout between Durrants Lane and Durrants Road, the report continues. Another plan is to create a humped zebra crossing at the junction between Bridgewater Road and Bridle Way.
