Praise for public after four Hemel Hempstead teens are charged with string of crimes

Police have praised the public for their help in an investigation into a string of offences which has seen four teenagers – the youngest only 14 – facing charges.

The 20 offences committed in the town centre and Bennetts End during May and June ranged from assault to intimidation of witnesses.

The four accused, all from Hemel Hempstead, have been released on bail after an appearance at Hatfield Remand Court.

Det Insp Justine Jenkins from the Hemel Hempstead local crime unit said: “We believe that these four boys were involved in a campaign of crime and anti-social behaviour which affected the quality of life of local residents.

“This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable.

“It will not be tolerated and we will tackle it using all powers available to us. I would thank people for their invaluable help with our investigation.”

In the dock were a 16-year-old charged with offences including assault, theft, robbery, intimidating witnesses, threatening to destroy property, threats to commit damage and a public order offence of provocation of violence, and a 14- year-old facing counts of assault, theft, criminal damage, intimidating witnesses, threats to commit damage and robbery, as well as a second 16-year-old and a youth of 17 who both who face charges of theft.
