Survey results have revealed that 93 per cent of patients in Hemel Hempstead, Watford and St Albans hospitals would recommend their experiences to others, while a ward in nearby Luton and Dunstable Hospital failed the new ‘friends and family’ test.

The data, taken between April and June, allows hospitals to gain feedback and helps patients make informed choices about where to be treated.

The three West Herts NHS Trust sites ranked highly in the scores calculated from the survey responses, with a total of 68 – four marks above the national average. Just 2.1 per cent said they would not recommend the hospitals.

Across the UK, 36 wards failed the test including Luton and Dunstable Hospital’s Ward 5. None of the wards across West Herts’ three hospitals received a negative score.

Chairman of the Dacorum Hospital Action Group Betty Harris said she was pleased to hear positive feedback from patients, but says there is still more to work on.

She added: “You can’t argue with how the patients feel. But there are still things that have been going wrong for years, and are still going wrong, which might not come into the friends and family test.”

Chief executive of the Trust Samantha Jones said: “I am definitely not complacent and we will use these results to further improve the care we provide.”
