You know you’ve made it big when your life becomes a feature on Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs.

The iconic interview show has been going since 1942 and explores the life of a different celebrity ‘castaway’ in each episode.

The latest – broadcast on Sunday – looked at the work of production designer Eve Stewart, who lives in Kitsbury Road, Berkhamsted.

She won a BAFTA for her work on Les Miserables earlier this year. She has also been nominated for awards for her production design work on hits including The King’s Speech and Vera Drake.

She has also worked widely in TV, including BBC One’s Call the Midwife – which was partly filmed at Berkhamsted’s Ashlyns School.

Speaking on Desert Island Discs, she said: “I just love telling stories, be they on film, theatre, television or even – I illustrate a lot – if they are in a book.”

Each guest on the radio show picks eight pieces of music, a book and a luxury item to take with them onto a fictional desert island, where they will be marooned.

Eve’s music choices included Shirley Bassey’s Goldfinger, her book choice was The Complete Works of Charles Dickens and a lifetime of self-firing clay was her luxury. The show will be repeated at 9am on Friday.
