Number of carriages on commuter trains between Dacorum stations and London to be slashed during August

Already busy commuter trains linking Dacorum and London Euston will be even more jam-packed during August as London Midland plans to run fewer carriages.

The train company says it needs the carriages for driver training from August 5 until August 23, having recruited 61 new drivers to the service.

A statement on the London Midland website said: “During August, we are undertaking some additional driver training, which means a number of services will need to run with fewer carriages than usual.

“Although our peak trains are quieter during August, we apologise if your journey is less comfortable.”

All of the amended services both heading to and from Euston will affect one or more of Tring, Berkhamsted, Hemel Hempstead, Apsley and Kings Langley train stations.

Six more services were originally reported to be running with fewer carriages, but after talking to one of its suppliers, the company has decided to revert those to full strength.

Operations director Tom Joyner explained: “Our new drivers need to learn about the trains they will be responsible for. To do this we have chosen the quietest time of the year to take some carriages out of service.

“While it does mean, regrettably, some passengers may find it harder to find a seat on some busy trains this month, all passengers will benefit from us having extra drivers available later this year.”
